Alternatves to getting a mortgage/traditional house

    Hey :)

I'm looking at maybe getting my own little place :) But... the idea of paying rent (i.e. someone else's mortgage) kind of gives me the heebie jeebies, to be honest. I moved away from home for quite a while a bit ago, but had to return because of the spoondoolies, grr.

While I was living in my own place, as I figured it would, paying the rent/house owner's mortgage made me feel sick like, such a lot of money for rent, like!

Anyway, I've been having a sconce at some not so traditional sorts of places, like (okay, don't laugh at me here!!!) living on a barge, or in a 'tiny house' - (Google it, if you're like, whuut, but, 'tis fairly self explanatory with the name, like ;);)), or maybe building a small house that would cost far less than a 'traditonal' one - there's a few companies in Ireland that do this, 'tis pretty cool :)

I know as well that a mobile home is an option. I know some people might be a bit snobby about it, but I'm not really, just in regards to that, which would be the most instantly doable thing I guess, what's the deal with renting an area to plonk your caravan on? I know there's sites, but they're generally for summer/weekender people, plus, way far away from the city (Cork) which is where I'm based.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations for renting a bit of grassy area? :) Thanks!!!

So you're not adverse to paying something. It is worth noting that the rent only pays a fraction of any mortgage and you don't have the headaches of maintenance. Your best option could be to get a 'fixer upper' where you could pay very little rent in return for helping out restore/upkeep a property.

There are even a few state owned houses looking for single tenants to contract for a couple of years to help keep a property livable. Google is your friend...:mad:pac:
