    Hey folks
Just wondering has anyone else come across this .
My car was due to be NCt'd last May but for various reason's i still dont have it, it failed a couple of times, the i didn't have the cash and was away for a bit, i still drove it and it was still taxed and insured

Anyway its fixed now and ready to go,so i rang up the NCT centre today and the women told me if i get it checked this week i'll only have a NCT that covers me to May as that was the orginal date but here's the odd part if i wait till after the 24th of this month the NCT i get will be for a year ??

    Why is this ?
    Is she correct ?
Any heard of this before ,?

Any help or comments would be great

    Both correct..

If you test it before the date in May,,it'll only cover you up to that date.

If you test if after that date,,it'll cover you to that date the following year..Or two years, depending on how old your car is.

I'm open to correction here though.

Yes, both correct. Test it now and it's being "back tested/back dated" back to when it was previously due. But if you wait until the date she said, then it's as though it was never tested/issued with a cert from last May and the test you would be doing would be deemed to be for May 2013 to May 2014 ( or two years if your car is less than 10 years old).

This is because you can have your car tested up to 3 months before it's due date. Your next due date is May, so you would fall into this category.

    Hope this clarifies it.

You will get a 15 month cert if you wait the couple of weeks so its a no brainer really.

No brainer as long as I'm not stopped in the mean time

Well I figured as you were happy to drive for 9 months without it that you would be happy to do the next fortnight.
