Crank arm trouble

the right hand crank arm came off during a cycle the other day. when i tried to tighten it up using a ratchet set i found that the gap between the nut and the surrounding crank arm wasn't big enough to let the ratchet head in!?!
Any videos or explanations i've looked up don't mention any specific tool for this and all seem to do it with ease.
    Any suggestions?

What is the make and model of the crank/crank arm?

I'm a real layperson when it comes to bikes, the best i can do is tell you the make and model of the bike. not sure if that'll help. it's a Kelly's, Tiger MTB. the nut i need to tighten is a 14mm nut.

You just need a socket with thinner side walls or purchase a crank removal tool, they are not expensive , 5 euro or so.
If you don't have a torque wrench better to take it to a bike shop and ask them to torque it for you otherwise it will just come loose again.
