Would have to stop at the junction/roundabout. Ashbourne Rd is an option but hard shoulder surface is crap on it.

You might be lucky. If you do have to stop then it will only be for a few seconds. You could also use your turbo, if you have one.

Straight out the old N2 from Kilshane Cross to Ashbourne. Couple of roundabouts but usually fairly light traffic. Dead straight, decent surface and more or less flat. Only problem is that, at 11k, it might be a couple of k short. You could double back at the second roundabout as an alternative and you would have no such problems.

Another alternative is to go north of Ashbourne and head up the N2. You would have to go as far as the traffic lights near Fairyhouse and start from there. Perfect route for it but obviously a bit further away - at least you would be well warmed up.

Edit - didn't see the posts after the OP. Thought the surface was OK and I wouldn't worry about the roundabouts. I would start after the Kilshane Cross traffic lights though.

Road's a bit of a pain in places though

An alternative is the Old N2 (now the R135 I think) starting at the Brock Inn and heading to Ashbourne and back, assuming they have finished the roadworks and the lights they were installing are not in operation! There may be a shorter option as I think they were installing another Roundabout part way along the road (near where we started a club race a couple of years ago - the White House?) and you may be able to simply ride between the one at the Brock Inn

I do all my threshold intervals on my TT bike between the ninemile stone and ward cross roundabouts, twice a week. It's only about 6km between these, and you'd be lucky not to meet a car at the Ward cross roundabout, I can almost guarantee you won't be able to do a continuous 20 minutes there without having to stop at one of the roundabouts.

I done my 30 minute lactate threshold test on the Batterstown road. I parked at the pub and cycled out to the turn for Black Bull. Started at Black Bull, out the road to Trim as far as the first roundabout and back to Black Bull was about 30 minutes on the button.

North of Ashbourne? Surface is grand. There are traffic lights a couple of k north of the big roundabout on the way out of Ashbourne. You could start there - there's no lights after that.

To be honest, I would go with the white house to the ashbourne roundabout and back. If it's good enough for Morana...
