Mature Student in a rut for the summer

    Hi All,

I have had a look through past threads and I can't find anything that might help me so I'm hoping one of you can.

So I am about to finish the 2nd year of my degree. I'm a mature student (29) and I'm on BETA. When college ends for the year, I am put back on Job Seekers until term starts again in September.

I am hoping this summer to find some work, but as I wasn't able too last summer I am thinking of maybe moving to Dublin for the 3 months. The issue with this is that my job seekers has to be transferred which depending on where it is can take from 4 to 8 weeks and then there would be a further wait for it to be transferred back in September. This was my issue last summer and why I stayed put (College is in Thurles). But in reality, there isn't much going on here during the summer and I can't see myself being able to find work.

Does anyone know is there a way around transferring? I know it's a long shot but just thought I'd check in a see

    Thanks in advance :)

Transferring really should only take 2 weeks at worst. Instead of going back to your current office at the end if college go to the new office to make the repeat claim. The repeat BTEA can be processed by the new office and usually BTEA claims are not transferred once they are processed. You will be paid in the bank so it won't affect your ability to collect your payments.

Ok.....pardon my stupidity but I don't really understand.

So I can open a repeat claim somewhere else, then come September just come back to where I go to college and go back on my BTEA as normal?

Sorry I know I am being a bit think about this....

Yes you can do that. Once you are finished for the summer you are making a new claim and this can be done at any office, it does involve transferring to that office. You should still be paid into the bank so it should not affect your payment.
