feeling anxious and sick all the time

so basically I'm feeling anxious and sick all the time. First thing when i wake up and just as i'm falling asleep are the times I feel worse. Its so bad that my sleep gets disturbed and I wake up a lot at night. I'm trying to pinpoint the cause which i think might be stress from college. I'm in my final year and really want a 2:1 so i can get into a college course I really want to do. But the last essay I got back i did pretty bad in and I just got called to see one of my head lecturers about another essay (i don't know what about yet but its not good). I try to get help from my lecturers and tutors but they just make me feel even more useless and stupid. I'm terrified I'm going to fail this year and that I'm just not smart or good enough. Its gotten so bad now that I don't want to go to college as i feel everyone around me is handling it really well and getting good grades. Also, I'm exhausted from not getting enough sleep. does anyone know any good advice in dealing with these feelings? or stop feeling sick with anxiety? much appreciate it thank you!

There are many good techniques, but from your post this is a bit more severe than some meditation/breathing etc. I would recommend popping to a GP today! Then we can discuss methods etc.

    Hello,

I was like you and I went to my GP. A combination of four things helped me:-
    1. Medication to deal with the physical effect of panic
    2. Open and honest therapy with an appropriately qualified therapist.
    3. Change in my lifestyle, subtle but effective - eg exercise, cut out drinking for a while
    4. A willingness to be different, a willingness to do what was needed to get better.

First thing for you is to go and see your GP.

    Hi bluotters013 :)

I'm sorry you're not feeling well and really hope you're able to find some measure of peace soon.
I think your situation is pretty normal and you are not alone, especially given all the stress of being a final year student. I remember during my finals at school I didn't sleep for almost three days straight and I would have panic attacks every day that extended beyond that week of actual testing. It was pretty miserable, so I can definitely relate. :(
But in my own opinion, one of the best thing you can do is be completely honest with yourself. Knowing your limits and learning to accept them will help you not only with finals, but in anything else you set out to do.

If you feel your lecturers aren't helping, then I would suggest looking elsewhere for a support group of some kind. Whether it be friends taking the same class or other students from your college, just a group of people that won't make you feel so alone and might be facing the same issues as you. Talk about it with them and try to focus on the positive rather than the negative. "Even though this paper might lack ____, it's strong points are ____."
I would also suggest talking to a professional (a counselor or psychologist) if you feel the anxiety is too unbearable or if it's beginning to interfere with your everyday life. There may be an underlying issue that you may not be aware of, or maybe an external factor other than school that might be making you feel this way.

Exercise, treat yourself to an awesome dessert, distract yourself every so often, reward yourself for the good. You deserve it for working so hard at the very least. You might be able to find breathing techniques or other methods of relaxation online.

Just know, you're not alone. And someone will always be willing to help. Don't give up! You're so close to achieving your goals! *cheers for them* :)

thanks so much for the replies! I see there's a recurring theme of contacting a counselor or gp. I made an appointment with one so hopefully that will help. I did use a counselor in the past and exercise always helped with my feelings of depression but lately i feel so bad that I don't even have the energy to get up and do it and when i do get active now its just doesn't have the same effect for me. Also, its probably a good idea to talk to people about this like friends and family so ill give that a try too. Overall I think i need to figure out the underlying issues here after writing that out and hearing everyone's replies I think its more than just feeling a little bit overwhelmed. Thanks so much
