Urgent! Need chassis number!

    Hi everyone,

So I purchased my car a few years ago but as a student I couldn't afford to keep it going so I kept it off the road and only began trying to get it back on the road in January.
As everything had lapsed, I had to start from scratch getting it back on the road, one bit at a time.
I purchased my insurance and renewed my liscence, and have it booked for the NCT.
Stupidly, I began driving it again as I've moved and needed it to take the kids to school (hence why I needed to get it back on the road)
After the license, insurance and NCT booking, I couldn't afford to get the tax until next pay day and just my luck I got stopped at a check point.

Now I have to bring in Insurance Cert, NCT cert and tax in 10 (now 7) days. I have everything else but I am trying to renew my tax but they need the chassis number.
I had to send the log book in with my documents to get my insurance and they haven't sent it back yet. I called them and they said they are trying to track it down :(
I know that normally you can look under the bonnet, inside the driver door etc but the car is a Japanese import so while the tags are there, they are all in Japanese and there are no numbers. Just Japanese symbols.
Is there anyone you can call or anywhere you can just enter your reg and get the chassis number?
If I don't get this sorted in the next few days, the guards will be taking it further which means court points etc.
    Can anyone help??

    Thanks in advance!

A big help would be to know the vehicle in question :)

On some cars it's visible in the windshield, by the wipers.

If you look under the bonnet there will be a metal plate somewhere that should have it stamped on it.

On some cars the plate is located on one of the suspension turrets, but in general you should be able to find it fairly handy, it will be a long string of numbers/letters about 17 characters long.

Sorry :) it's a 1998 Nissan March. It's the Japanses version of the Micra

There is a metal plate with numbers on it, but there was only about 9 so I'm assuming that can't be it? I searched everywhere and other than that it's just Japanese symbols.
Could the chassis no. be different in length if it's from Japan?

Thank you so much! :) I found the plate same as that, it was well hidden.
But im not sure which is the chassis? Is it the number starting with K? Isn't is supposed to be 17 numbers?

VIN is supposed to be 17 digits, yes, but that doesn't apply to some Jap imports afaik. In some countries (Australia for example) a ‘surrogate’ VIN is generated but I have no clue how it works in Ireland, sorry :(

I have a '98 March too and the chassis no is where I've indicated on the picture below. Will start with the letter and digits K11 *******

EDIT - Mine has only six digits after the K11
