looking for a citroen 2cv to buy

Hi guys,

I am looking for a nice (driveable if possible)citroen 2cv for reasonable money.

Its for my mother who is being made redundant next month and is going through a hard time.
We used to have one twenty five years ago and had great times with it so I am looking to cheer her up.

a nice 2CV for reasonable money? forget it gone are the days when 2CV was synonym for cheap motoring. A driveable one will fetch big money these days...

roughly any idea how much and where?not much I can see on this wee island,some nice looking ones in England but its a bit too much hassle

most of the ones coming up for sale here are complete basket cases and the owners think they're worth their weight in gold. Every now and again, a decent one pops up, but be prepared to pay top dollar for one.

If you want a RHD one that's not a complete basket case, the UK is your only hope. Go for one that already has had a galvanised chassis fitted (although i'd never get one myself with a galvanised chassis), it will save you a lot of hassle down the line.

if it's charm you're after, i'd go for the Dyane instead. There's one for sale at the moment, but the last time i saw it, it needed a good bit of work.

The only AX to have is the 92 onward model (facelift model), with the 954cc engine and a 4 speed gearbox. Oh and if you're taller than 5 foot, avoid models with a sunroof

That last one is quite interesting. Its actually near Beauvais (Ryanair) but its in the village(Albert) where, (prior to 1997 when the tower of Ireland was built in Messines,) exists the only memorial to the Southern regiments who fought in the Great War. ramble over

Simple

A galvanised chassis is heavier and less flexible than a standard chassis. And the last thing you want to do to a 2CV is add weight i've had both galvanised and non-galvanised, and i notice the difference but i'd say for a non-afficionado, a galvanised chassis is probably the best option (hassle free, no rust).

Where abouts are you. Know a fella in Dublin who has a 2cv centre. Haven't seen him in a while so don't know what he has

Hard to get a good one here for reasonable money but if you are prepared to undergo a few weeks of madness as we did you can resurect a basket case.
