Flying Dublin to Manchester Saturday returning on monday. I usually fly Ryanair from knock so I'm not familiar with this mobile check in.
Am I right in saying that my boarding card is stored on my phone and does not need to be printed ?

    Correct,

you'll need to display the 3D barcode to Security and Boarding personal.

On way back check in at hotel or cafe with free wifi, capture the screen with the QR code as a photo - this way when in UK Airport (on way back) if you don't have wifi or mobile internet you can still get at the boarding pass.

Will need to hold your phone with the code on the screen against a scanner at the gate.

Make sure your phone is charged!

This is good advice. I always save the QR code as a photo to my phone. Very handy in case of a webpage refresh or something doesn't work in airport, as happened me once.

Flying with aer Lingus this weekend. I have the App but I'm a bit apprehensive about using it to check in.
Is there any problems with it.

Do I need my passport traveling to uk?

Read the Check-in and Visa/Passports sections here.......

Used this for the first time last week - worked like a charm. However, when I got to Manchester airport my phone wouldn't pick up the internet, so I was very grateful to thebiglad who left the tip above about taking a photo of the QR code!!

All they need so is the bar code. Once I check in take a picture of the bar code and I'm sorted?

They're referring to the barcode for the return leg where you might not have access to a printer so the day before you're due to fly home, you login to the airline's website in your hotel or in an internet cafe and take a photo of the barcode for your boarding pass. That way if there is no Wi-Fi or internet access in the airport (so you can't access the Aer Lingus mobile app) you will have the barcode in your photo gallery to show the security official at the queue for the scanners and the airline employee at the boarding gate.

I'm flying out and back on the same day. Don't ask why family stuff.
Could I do both check ins at the same time.

not sure but I'd suspect you can - I haven't done a day return for quite a while.

We will be flying next Saturday from Dublin to Gatwick with aer Lingus and then on to Orlando. We will have check in baggage. Is this app of any use to use or should be just join the queue as usual?

Checking in online allows you to select a seat (beginning 30 hours before the flight if you want to select a seat for free) and you'll have a better choice than if you leave it until the day of the flight. If you're checking in bags you have to go to the check-in desk anyway so you can elect to not print off the boarding card at home and have the agent at the desk print them for you but you can reserve the seat whatever option you go for.

I wasn't able to log on to my booking on the aer Lingus flight. Probably because it's not yet 30 hours before the flight, although I think I did see another option for checking in earlier than 30 hours before. I will go back and have another look. It would be great if we could book the seats in advance as we have a cares harness for our two year old and you need to be on a seat at the back as they stop the trays from coming down.

Seat selection is free if it's less than 30 hours before the flight, before that you have to pay.

Note the terminology Aer Lingus uses....

    Web Check-in
refers to a flight whose departure is between 30 and 2 hours away, seat selection is free. When it's less than two hours before the flight, you cannot do an online check-in.

Advance Check-in refers to a flight that is leaving between 30 days and 30 hours in the future, you pay for seat selection.
