Bord Gais - Does a homeowner have to pay a deposit if not using Direct Debit?

I'm a homeowner and currently on Direct Debit with Bord Gais for the GAS account. I want to change to be on manual payments rather than Direct Debit, but was told today that I'd have to pay a deposit.

Is this correct? I thought that if you own the home you do not have to pay a deposit.

I can't seem to find anything on their website about it (I can only find the info on the Bord Gais Energy FAQ which isn't relevant as it's the electricity account)

Op it doesn't matter if home owner or not, but if you have proofed your billing in the past they would usually wave the deposit, may want 18 months or more.

You could pay in XX amount each week anyway with the direct debit in place if you wanted
