Holding a registration night in club

I am pushing for our club have a registration night for all underage players in the club, and any adult player that wants to pay their membership on the night

We have never done one of these before, and I am encountering resistance to the idea from other club members - sure whats the point in that? we never had one before! sure nobody will turn up; being among the responses I have received

anyway, has anyone here had experience of club registration nights?
whats the format of the night? anything special guests?
    how is it promoted?
is there a carrot used to get players/parents to register on the night?
is club gear sold on the night?
any other info that would be useful

    cheers

Good way to get the process of people paying their yearly registration pushed on. A nightmare in most clubs. Even with no membership no play, it's still an issue for a lot of clubs.

Have experience of it and have to say that its been a big success. For one as Dave Grohl says its a good way of getting the money in.

Format most successful I've seen is advertise in usual forms - parish bulletin, thro' schools, shops, website, local rag etc

Give it an 1 hour 1/2 to 2 hours for underage players/ senior players to come in a stick the name down/ pay the membership. Try and have an incentive - like loads of info and meet the coaches etc - so people feel they are missing out if they don't come.

Another idea that I've seen work is have the senior lads/trainers hang around and generally be accessible to the youngsters.

Why not have a raffle for people that pay membership on the night - you don't have to go mad - bit of new gear/ kit bag etc.

What about a few medals/awards left over from previous year!!

Also have loads of club merchandise etc

Will throw up any more ideas as they come to me :)

When you think about it a missed opportunity in a lot of clubs. What could be turned into an all inclusive entire club event is petered out instead across the year with generally lots of players being really late with registration just because of never getting around to it.
