    I've been watching this Ryanair flight out of Prestwick. Is it me or has it taken a strange route? It didn't go above 15,000. Looks like it's inbound again!

    Training flight maybe?

    Ryanair have a maintenance base at Prestwick so more than likely a test flight.

    Hence the "M" suffix on the callsign. Aer Arann also use this, e.g. REA100M when ferrying etc.

    M = maintenance
    P = positioning
    T = training

    Dunno if this has been asked before, but do "normal" Pilots fly these test flight or training flights or is there dedicated maintenence pilots to fly these test flights?

    For training flights there will normally be a training captain and the trainee.

    For maint flights its usually who ever was on standby will be called in to fly.

    Also, most engineers would not class any pilot as "normal"....

    Aircraft mentioned had pressurization problems and was in for a test flight for this.
