Biafrans

My daughter started a course in a Third Level institution last year. In her class there are a few nice people, but there are also some very rough people. All they talk about is the grant and when it is coming. She and her friends refer to the as the Biafrans as they alwyas seem to be hungry. One day about two weeks ago my daughters car was being serviced and I lent her my 4 x 4 to go to college. She had just spent €80 on her hair the day before and she was going to the theatre that night. One of the biafrans came up to her at the end of the day and asked her for a lift. He said his bicycle had been stolen and he had to walk 4 miles from home to college. He had only a shabby coat and his hair was long. She wasn't going to let someone like that into my 4 x 4 which is only 18 months old and cost €80k so she told him that it was my car and there was a strict no lifts policy.
Since then, she has seen him staring at her when she is in college. Whenever she goes to the canteen for a latte, she sees him hanging around outside. One day she saw him pulling a sandwich from his shabby coat and munch it.
My daughter went to an expensive private school and finds all of this very upsetting.
She complained to the Registrar in the college who says there is nothing he can do.
It is just terrible that third level institutions can't keep standards up.

Could you ask her to stop ringing me next time you see her?

It was just a casual ride. I''m not interested in "seeing her 4x4".

Now I have to get a new one.

Are you happy, OP? Are you?

    Third Level Institution :D

When you finish your Junior Cert you will start calling it College (or Uni because of the €80k SUV/Fighter Jet that you hope to drive someday).

yet in another thread you said this....
I think private schools are a bad idea and taxes should not be wasted on them. There will always be people who are rich enough to educate their children privately, so why should my tax money go to them? There are other who can't afford private education at all. There are some who can only afford it because the state subsidises it. They should be made go to state schools where they belong and give up their "keeping up with the Joneses mentality".

and did you get the 4x4 from the shop you work in?
Teachers have it very easy. I see them coming into the shop I work in on the way to school hours after I have started. They are in again hours before I finish. In between they have had lunch and tea breaks. There are days I don't even get a cup of tea standing up, not to mind actually sitting down for a break. All they talk about is where they are going later, they seem to be always going to the theatre. I don't doubt that children need holidays from teachers but I think teachers should do some socially useful work during the long holidays. There is a huge litter problem in this country and we are trying to attract tourists yet we are paying teachers to sit on their hands for months every summer!

    trolloollollllll

I drive a 6 x 6. I have a strict policy on giving lifts to the 4 x 4 driving ruffian types who get their hair done in places for as cheap as €80.

The post is an account of what a woman said in the shop in front of me yesterday. It is as near as I can remember. It was hard not to hit her a slap in the face.

Jesus, you must have followed her around the shop to get that full story. There's eavesdropping and then there's hardcore professional eavesdropping. Bravo Sir.

P.S What did you buy in the shop?
