Can recieve Freeview, want Saorview

Hi, I've recently moved to Lucan and there was a dish already erected on the house. I traced the cabling from the dish to the living room and using an old Sky box I had, I am able to pick up the UK Freeview channels.

I want to receive Saorview channels. I am going to buy a new Saorview approved TV and my question is how do I go about having the Freeview and Saorview on the TV simultaneously? Is it just a case of connecting an interior aerial to the new TV or would I need an exterior wall mounted one? Also would I be best getting a different box that could pick up Saorview and Freeview simultaneously and avoid the expense of a Saorview TV?

Thanks in advance. Couldn't find an answer with a similar scenario to mine!

You will need an aerial to get Saorview. Depending on your location, that can be indoor or outdoor. An outdoor aerial is recommended. Have a look at www.saorview.ie.

Cheers, might try get the interior one first to see does it work to save the hassle.

Now would I be better getting a box capable of receiving the satellite signal and decodeing MPEG4 (if such exists) rather than buying a Saorview TV?

You'll get 8 channels with Saorview. If you are happy with the range of FTA channels that you're getting now from the dish, then invest in a good tv. If you are big into sports you will have to go the Sky route.

To be honest I had Sky ordered until i figured out what a large range of FTA there was. Sure most sports can be watched illegally now anyway. The only channel that I'd watch that I wouldn't have would be Sky 1

Freeview is UK Digital Terrestrial system. What you're receiving via Sky box is UK FTA (Free to air channels). To pick up Saorview and Freeview you would need an aerial for both and a compatible box. There are also boxes that pick up both FTA satellite and Saorview with an internal tuner for each system.

To receive Saorview you will need an aerial, possibly indoor, probably outdoor. Then, get either a Saorview combi set top box to receive Saorview and FTA satellite, or a TV with integrated Saorview and satellite tuners. These options are covered reasonably well on the Saorview website. You should also visit your local retailer, eg DID Lucan or Power City Fonthill. PC in particular have a good selection and the staff are up to speed on the options. Alternatively your neighbours may be able to recommend a good local installer who will offer you a one stop shop solution. Or, if you want to go the DIY route check out www.tvtrade.ie
