I inherited a golf glider during the weekend :)
The battery is a kinetix and it has not been used or charged in over 18 months.
Should i recharge and go out a the weekend or should i run it down and then recharge fully before i bring it down to the course?

When i plugged it in briefly it said it was 80% charged. I know it has sat unused in a garage since 2011

    Any suggestions please?

Condition the battery!! Put trolley ip on a block and let it run the battery down completely. Then charge it up fully as normal. If you bring it to a motor factors they will put a tester on it for you and check that it is OK. If you want you can just take it out on the weekend, but if it dies, they are a hoor to push around!!

    cheers

Peter sorry but that's bad advice. You should not run down those Non spill lead acid batterys intentionally. That takes from the life of the battery prematurely. (Assuming that's the kind he has he didn't mention it was li ion)

Just charge it up mate. Those chargers 'trickle charge' so just leave it on until you are going out on Saturday. Then you will know how it faired out. Good luck.

If its a Li-Ion battery then "conditioning" will do more harm than good, only the older Ni-Cad batteries benefit from being fully discharged and recharged as they suffer from a memory effect.

Just use it as normal, but for the first time out I would take it for 9/12 holes just to see what its like, you dont want to get stuck somewhere with it.

Mea culpa, I read the kinetix to mean ni-cad and now that I think about it, cannot think why... some old word association thing perhaps.
Modern golf battery chargers are really charger/conditioners in that they both charge and discharge the battery to simulate use. They are very similar to the ones used in keeping vintage cars abtteries in good shape despite seldom use.
Once charged, you can still have it tested at a motor factors to know how capable it is of holding a good charge.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

Just wondering has anyone upgraded to a 36 hole battery for a golf glider?

Looking at a few on ebay and amazon just wondering has anyone else upgraded and how you got on with it?

    Cheers
