Only thing I have used is breakdown assist...

Me and the missus only pay €430 on a 1.2, both of us fully comp. through Insure.ie (Aviva is the provider). Paid €700 last year with the same setup on a 1.9TDI.

Try get a quote, I've been with them nearly 4 years and have nothing but good things to say about them :)

    Aviva aren't brokers.

Ring every insurance company and a good selection of brokers.

Make sure you're comparing like with like.

Re the excess, it depends on the difference in premium.

Sounds pricey for a TPFT policy!! naming a driving is normally good on an Axa policy. defo shop around. throw a few brokers ~ they will all have different deals.
    Mucker2020 wrote: »

there are alot of policies out there now that are broken down into the basics. Your policy perhaps has windscreen cover/bonus protection/a low excess/ breakdown assistance etc...so just be wary of any new quotes you get, so you're comparing like with like.

You are correct, I was with a broker prior to this year (Asgard) - Aviva are one of the companies you can get the insurance from through Insure.ie.

    That quote is fully comp....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭Mucker2020

    Scratch that...

Upon applying all my details the cheapest available was €609 and that didn't include everything on my existing policy....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭marcus2000

have you tried ringing a broker - they can help you put in additional details which can help bring the price of a policy down. I'm insured with quoteMe.ie (0818 22 44 33)

That sounds rather high. I'm insured fully comp with my no claims insured on a 1.8 Laguna for €480 with Axa. As has been said shop around, ring up companies, don't just do internet quotes.

Sounds very pricey, I'm 28 and my renewal is 474 euro fully comp on a Golf GTI. It's with 123. Try adding a woman as a named driver it knocked 60 euro of mine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,127 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

    i paid E260 this year with 123.ie 28 y.o male, 4 year ncb, 2.5L petrol, TPFT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,157 ✭✭✭✭Alanstrainor

OT.... just got a quote of 750 on 123.ie...that's a lot better than the 1000+ im paying this year.

Shop around OP, putting a couple of hours in could save you hundreds.

No nonsense and 123 were the 2 cheapest places i found last month, i tried EVERYONE.

OP, do you live in a less than desirable area? When things go bump in the night is it a stolen car off the side of some poor sods house?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 18,986 Mod ✭✭✭✭Moonbeam

Normally Axa,Allianz and AA have the lowest quotes for me.
    i shop around a lot .
Always ring them directly and feel free to laugh at their quotes it can help:)

i think we pay about 850 for both cars a 1.6 primera and a 2l Galaxy,I am 30 with 7 years ncb and he was only ever on my insurance previously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,629 ✭✭✭googled eyes

I went with NoNonsence as they original quoted me around 50 less than my Aviva renewal. around € 530 - 32, 1.6 Mazda, 3 years ncb.fully comp.
I contacted everyone i could think of. Chill rang me while i was still looking at tgeir website , she told me they couldn't get near.

When I sent proof of my noclaims bonus they knocked another €80 off ! Happy days

People need to shop around. You are under no obligation to stay loyal to any one insurance company unless they return that loyalty with the most comprehensive cover at the most competitive price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,302 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

Paying €520 on a Focus ST 07 and i only got my license last april so yea thats abit high for a 1.6 methinks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 405 ✭✭shooter88

they all seem high im 25 full license 5yrs no claims 480e on a 04 dtci 115 mondeo TPFT with liberty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,364 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Lads, it is very difficult to compare your premium with that of the OPs unless you share the same demographics as the OP such as age, location, driving experience, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,302 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

Meh it's still high until we find his clone

Also is it an Irish license you have OP? Insurance companies charge more for drivers with licenses from other countries I believe. Another possibility could be what you input as your job. For example someone working in a bar will pay more than someone working in an office as their seen as a greater risk due to drink driving etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭passremarkable

    mucker,
just shop around, get a few different prices, keeping an eye for the excesses, 300 max should be ok, anything higher, steer clear.
your 30, so you should get option of driving of other cars third party automatically. make sure you get the usuals, breakdown, glass cover. also make sure your no claims bonus is protected to a decent level, companies vary.711 is a bit high to be quoted, i think anything over 650 is too much, dont think your driving since 16, you can only get a prov lic at 17...anyway if your driving that long your no claims bonus should be 5 years

I'd advise to go fully comp.
It may not seem like the way to cheaper insurance but it can be!

I was shopping around recently for my ST, Fully comp was around 600 ish, 3rd Party was closer to 1k

Seems like some insurers consider a 3rd party policy more risky than a fully comp one....

may have to do with the theft rates in the area..can often happen that way

Have 11 years NCB, no accidents claims convictions etc 35 male , on Audi TT 2002, cheapest with mods (lowered suspension , audio system, bodykit, cross drilled brake discs) is 843 fully comp protected. Without mods it would be 560. Liberty want 1100 without mods, 1150 with, the only other company that would quote me..
Quotes like 260 seem crazy cheap when you think you could knock someone lightly and they could claim 40 grand out of the company.
Roll on a classic insurance policy in a few years hopefully for me.

Ive just paid no nonsense 232 for tpft,41yo on a 04 1.6 avensis with full licence/ncb.

If you are still driving the Suburu, they have a incredibly low insurance grouping for them in comparison to other company's.

Years ago my broker said the insurance company i was with would penalise me 20% for having a German licence. I rang the ombudsman who informed me that insurance companies can't penalise people for having a licence from another EU country. Got back to broker, told them what I was told, the 20% where dropped in a hurry.
Can't quote the exact legislation, but bottom line is, insurance companies cannot load your premium for having a driving licence from another EU country. Don't know about non-Eu countries.
Me: 40 year old male, German licence, 06 1.8 diesel CMax, pay E333 with NoNonsense fully comp.

Worth trying jltonline.ie (broker), very good quotes for fully comp..

(No attachment or interest to them)

tesco have been the cheapest for us last 3 years (before that it was quinn direct) very strange now i think of it all our policies were within a tenner of each other last year:

    45m 10+yrs ncb 2006 318i - 262 fc
    44f 10+yrs ncb 2012 vw up - 263 fc
    25f 7yrs ncb 2005 fiesta 1.25 - 267 tpft
    23f 5yrs ncb 2002 civic 1.4 - 270 tpft

all the policies cover driving of other vehicles (so long as you are not the registered owner)

    underwritten by RSA i think.

having said that we did get 1 quote for the civic at 3200? wtf they were on i don't know.

dont think your driving since 16, you can only get a prov lic at 17
You can/could get a licence for a small cc bike or tractor at 16. I know it's not a car and most likely won't affect a ncb but legally you can drive at 16

I've a UK licence and it makes no difference.

+1, I've been on the road more or less since the day I turned 16 due to driving tractors. Its a pity a lot more didn't get used to driving on the roads in a tractor and they might be better able to get around the roads in a small car

Non UK and Ireland. Probably to do with people who are used to driving on the opposite side of the road
