What defines you as a person?

Had a pretty interesting conversation with someone this evening and asked what defines them and me as people?

I guess when it comes down to it for me I define who I am with how much good I can do for the people I care about. That I want to improve their lives in even only a small way.

The other person wanted to excel in their career and achieve lofty goals in their field of study.

IMO there is no wrong core belief for someone to have but it was interesting to see what drives them.....

So boardsies...... what defines you as a person?

Not one single thing, but the sum total of my experiences, the people who have influenced me, my motivations and my values. I find nothing more boring than people who are defined by one aspect of their lives. Be that their work, their relationship, their hobby or their kids.

A seriously dangerous way of thinking.

That sort of thinking causes depression and suicide.

You are a human being, simple as.

I'd say Paul Gascoigne defined himself as the the funny, mad one. Always up for a laugh one of the lads. When he couldn't validate that self image he felt like sh1t so he turned to alcohol and drugs to feel good again. It's the same old narrative again and again with people who become depressed.
