Price and possibility of extraction?

    Hello Dentists,

I need a tooth extracted (top, back left.. I think that's a third molar).
I don't have much money and I know the tooth needs to be extracted.

Is it possible to just walk into a dentist (with appointment of course), get the extraction, pay and then leave?

I really don't want to pay for a load of superfluous exams and scans.
I've had it looked at by dentists before, it's basically shattered into many pieces.

The only reason I haven't had it done was I didn't trust the hygiene of the hospital in the country I was in at that time.

How much would just an extraction cost?

    Thanks.

    Jim.

So you want a dentist who doesn't have an X-ray of a tooth that could be milimeters from you sinus cavity to remove a badly broken down tooth, that will probably shatter at the slightest pressure? People seem to think that just because dentists make amputating your body parts simple looking and painless that it is simple. Dentist are not Tyre fitters that work to the patients prescription for the problem.

No you need an examination and X-ray. The dentist may be able to do the job on the same day. The likelihood is you have other issues you should know about. Not knowing doesn't make them go away, dental problems are not like fine wine and get better with time.

An examination and extraction will cost between 80 - 2000 euro depending. Have you health insurance?

It is vital to have an xray of the broken tooth to assess the length& shape of the roots, and their proximity to your maxillary sinus (google oro-antral communication, oro-antral fistula).
If the tooth is very broken down, the extraction may be beyond the expertise of a general dentist, & you may need to be referred to an oral surgeon (google surgical extraction).
Ideally you should see a dentist first& then get advice on the best course of action for the tooth.

You are under no obligation to have a full examination/assessment of the remainder of your teeth(which may be heading down a similar path).
A full checkup is advisable, but you won't be browbeaten into having one. It's actually more lucrative for dentists to not bother with checkups, they pick up things at a really basic early stage, and prevent major complications (extractions, root canal, crowns, bridges, implants)
So longterm, in declining a checkup, you're really being hoisted by your own petard:confused:
