be a much better system to add road tax to petrol and diesel. you drive more you pay more

now i know fuel tax is already extortionate but from my workings out

lets say i spend 50 a week on diesel. thats 2600 a year. plus a averaged tax of 400 (mines commercial so on the low side so i used a higher figure of what id guess at the average to be)

    so 3000/52 = 57.7

so 7.70 more per week so

    1.15 cent more per litre.

    doesnt seem too bad then.

even if they added 2 cent. you wouldnt notice that much week to week. no avoiding road tax.

what ya think. and please do tell if my quick maths is very wrong cos it could well be

Petrol. As we drive diesels I'd be all in favour of putting extra tax on petrol and abolishing our motor tax.

petrol, if you tax deisel, the haulers will charge more, then goods will cost more.

if you want to go the "drive more pay more" tax route, look at the us, there trying to charge hybrid car users an extra amount on there cars for using less fuel.

Add it to diesel only. Mainly because I use petrol.

ah really. obviously you add it to both. its not a question of which to stick it on.

Add it to Roverjames and Anan because we disagree on things and id like them to pay more.

A system could easily be implemented where hauliers can claw back the tax much like businesses and VAT :)
To put motor tax on petrol and not diesel is lunacy.

We pay more anyway, maybe that's why we're so disagreeable.

    so 50€ a week is roughly 33.33l a week at 1.50 per l (diesel)

    so, 57.70 a week for 33.33 l would be 1.73 a l

    1.73 - 1.50 is 23cent.

your not getting the point, there going to be charged a flat fee, for using less milage, resulting in less tax for the state.

so they add a tax on cars with high mpg.

making the "add more tax to fuel instead of flat tax" a bit redundant.

id be in favour of €1.30 a l for both, and higher flat tax for all cars.

I was replying to the bit in bold ;)

Regarding the hybrid stuff, if motor tax goes on petrol and diesel than hybrid and EV owners should indeed be charged a flat fee imo, about €3465/annum :D
