    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/ref=pe_144731_34270221_pe_hdr_1/?ASIN=B007HCCOD0

it's only the basic model, but it comes with free delivery to a UK address with amazon prime membership (you can use parcel motel who will charge you €3.50 to forward to Ireland).

someone on here without amazon prime membership might confirm if it's still free delivery without?

it's €89 in PC World at the moment, so even with the €3.50 for parcel motel it's still a pretty good bargain and might be a good valentines pressie for your othere half? :)

you'll need to register it with amazon.com (not .co.uk) to buy kindle books online, but it's very straightforward to do and there are no issues with getting books onto it either that way, or using the free calibre ebook manager if you want to buy your ebooks elsewhere or download free ones from project gutenberg etc.

I saw this last night too... "For Today Only":D

Would be tempted but have an original kindle with nice leather case so happy to stick with it. New one's are far lighter and neater though.

I can confirm that there is free UK delivery without Amazon Prime.

Are books cheaper on the uk or us one?

Depends on the book and publisher really, I usually check both before buying.

Any issues hooking up both to your kindle?! I am registering a kindle for somebody and thought I'd choose one, the cheapest. But if there is a way to easily have both that is fine too.

If in Ireland you'll probably have to go with .com anyway as they can detect your IP address and use your payment details to default you to a store. Some people get away with changing their country to the UK in My Kindle or using a VPN, others get contacted by Amazon basically telling them to stop and use .com.

I've never had issues because my office network is a UK one so they see me as being in the UK anyway.

59 Euro is really a good price. This might be the kick I needed to finally give up conventional reading (books).

Okay, how do you get parcel motel to forward the package onto Dublin?
I try to proceed past the checkout(I've got a Kindle and a third-party leather case in my basket, both of which are "eligible for Super Saver Delivery), but it says it they both can't be dispatched to my address and to try Amazon.com instead, which I don't wanna do for reasons that are obvious.

    What's the workaround?

Add your Parcel Motel address to your Amazon account and dispatch to that. Use the Antrim Parcel Motel address and the package will be sent to your preferred Dublin one. Is the third-party leather case fulfilled by Amazon? If not, then I believe you'll be charged for 2 deliveries by Parcel Motel.

From what I remember, someone posted a BA that Currys/PC World in Blanchardstown have kindle covers for €10. Not sure if they still do.

    Right, thanks for that. :D

I'll give that a shot soon.
edit: and yes, the leather case is "Fulfilled by Amazon". Though I'm still not sure how that works when ordering to Ireland; AFAIK, the actual individual item has to be in excess of £25, not the sum-total of your basket. But we'll see.

if you register for parcel motel they give you an address in the UK and also in Ireland to send to which includes a unique ID for you.

you then add that address inc. the ID to your amazon account as a delivery address and amazon will deliver it. parcel motel will then deliver the package to your designated drop off point (blocks of lockers scattered around, usually outside Spar's and petrol stations etc. where there is 24/7 access) and send you a text message with a code for you to collect your package. you go there and enter your mobile number and the code and your locker opens with the package inside and you're all set. :)

after (i think) the first 3 goes which are free, it's €3.50 per 'stay' for your packages which they leave there for 3 days before returning to their depot at which point you have to call them and re-arrange a dropoff, unless you have another package arriving in which case they will usually send it for collection again without you calling them.

Thanks vibe, got it all set up earlier on.

I'd heard of PM before but never understood how it worked, thought it was just another bog-standard courier service.

It seems like a great idea, akin to the Amazon Locker system it's probably trying to emulate. And the nearest locker is only a 10-15 min. drive for me, so that's great.

Will definitely use this in future when I try to order bulkier products from the UK.

It's £59, not €, for the Kindle FYI.
I bought a leather case to go along with it (£9.99) and the grand total was actually 82 quid in euros.

Amazon's currency converter is obviously skewed in their favour! Last I saw(yesterday) it was .90p to the €, but according to them, it's .85p.

Still a great deal mind you, I basically got the cover for free.

90p yesterday? Highly unlikely. Amazons is closer to the actual mark.

I think that was a reference to the German offer on Amazon.de.
