Bike service

How often should one service a bike? How many Km's would you need to be doing before getting it checked out like a car? I would be doing spins of 50k+ per week. I mean I can do brakes, tyres myself if needed but nothing else so i would have to bring it to a bike shop for servicing.

    Thanks.

Not too much can go wrong with a push bike compared to motorized transport.

Check tire pressure, chain tension (Single speed, hub geared, fixie) brake pads aligning with rim, slack taken up on brake / gear cables, gears are indexing correctly. check for loose / broken spokes. etc.

In the old days you would have to take up slack on the BB axle and wheel bearing cones, to day these are nearly sealed and maintenance free.
