    Hi.

We have a 20 year old boiler in our house in Dublin. It has been recommended to me to get it changed(its efficiency is probably less than optimal)

My Brother in-law changed to Oil(he's in the country), and has a 2nd hand Alpha CD24R spare.

I'm pretty uneducated with regards to Gas Boilers, but would the Alpha CD24R be recommended?

What would a ball park figure be for installation?

Take into account we'll need a timer installed as well.

    Thanks in Advance.

    David

I cant imagine you will find it easy to get an RGI registered installer to fit a second hand boiler as last man touch rule usually applies. I would ask those who are registered to install boilers not to discuss this with you as discussing it without seeing the condition of the boiler also implies its suitable for installiation.

The general rule on boiler installiation is once its moved replace the flue. This is because you cannot guarantee the seals being safe on a second hand boiler. There is a lot more to discuss on this and i would wish to caution contributors.

No one not RGI registered should discuss this with you and No one RGI registered would be in there right mind to.

Lastly boiler suitability is not decided by brand but by demand.

Id strongly oppose it. You dont know what is wrong and compared to a new boiler you wouldn't get long before parts give trouble.

    How old is the boiler?

2 1/2 years old, with one years use. Gas is simply too expensive compared to oil in the country.

I wouldn't have any secondhand gas appliance in my house, you can't trust them and I couldn't sign off on one either.

Don't forget you would more than likely have to convert it as well which is more messing.

Where did you hear that from? Gas is the cheapest form of energy in this country, coming in at approx 50% cheaper than oil!
Re: 2nd hand boiler, you will only find a fool to install it for you. It is also against the law to install anything but a Band A boiler unless certain conditions are met. I have yet to find an installation where the conditions are met so far as economics is not one of them!

Well, this seems to be Band A. http://www.alpha-innovation.co.uk/products/Boilers/Regular+Boilers/CDR+Range/2774393986
