Protection/Safety Order Cork District Court

    Hi.
I currently live in a violent household, and have been advised to get a protection (interim safety order) and safety order. I went in to Cork District Court a while back to do so, but seemed to have been misled by the staff member in regards to directons...
I read up on getting the orders and you have to go to the court clerk, who gives you forms to fill out, however, when I asked in the administrative area where this was, I was told it was in the next building, as in outside, next to the court. I went out and had a look, must have walked up and down Anglesea St. 3 or 4 times, and I couldn't see anything purporting to be the clerk's office... Was the guy just taking the p*&%, or does anyone have any experience of getting these orders?
I was in a right state that day, and just wanted to get it over with, by the time I got in to the court it was 3.30, what with the constant amount of arguing there is here, and having to justify every single thing that I do. I really just wanted to get it over with that day, I was (sorry to sound like a long trail of misery) just exhausted when I got in there, never mind the hassle of trying to find an office that I couldn't.
I haven't really had the guts to go in there since. God, this is cheerful.
When I pluck up the courage (hopefully!), does anyone have a sure-fire way of locating the clerk's office?
    Urgh.

There is usually a man by the door at the court, who is very good for directions, and if you get back to him and say 'terribly sorry, I can't find the office, do you mind showing me?' I am sure he would take you there. I was there last year for a much less stressful matter and I recall the clerk's office is somewhere on the right, down the corridor (but don't quote me on that!).

Just ask for directions, and if it doesn't work, then ask again and ask people to show you. And be there in plenty of time, because the clerk might be out, etc.

If you can take someone with you you may feel calmer.

Pop into the Gard station on Anglesea St, (or the local nick) and ask them what the procedure is. Definitely, don't go on your own - take a friend with you.

    Good luck!

The offices are down Union Quay, I think number 5. so if you leave the court house (court house on your Left) walk up towards the city hall . take a left down union quay, if you google 5, union quay and go to maps; you should get an image of where you should go. good luck, I hope you understand my directions.

On the courts.ie website you'll find links to maps of the various court offices around the country including phone numbers for the offices.

There is also a very good section on family law covering all aspects including domestic violence. This is a link to the section on domestic violence including the forms that you can download to make your application.

If you are finding it difficult to deal with the situation try contacting Women's Aid or AMEN (if you're male) who may be able to find someone to accompany you to court.
