so i bought an item on amazon last week , it was quite expensive a cpu intel 3570k, now usually when i order from amazon its an post that deliver's it and its handed over to them when its dispatched but for some particular reason amazon decided to give it to royal mail which makes no sense what so ever, am just wondering will royal mail hand it over to an post once it reaches dublin?

What do you expect? You order something from the UK and it's Royal Mail until it reaches Ireland. Do you think An Post operates a service within the UK?

sorry i didn't mean it in that way , when i usually order anything from amazon it says being dispatched by an post, and it gives me a tracking number and an estimated delivery time , but on this order it said royal mail and the estimated delivery time was over a week and a half away and i paid for 3-4 day delivery and theres no tracking number , just found it abit odd but thanks :)

    May be delivered by GLS

Would it just be dispatched from the UK because they had no stock in Ireland or something?

no see it was from amazon uk, but all my orders ive got with them so far have been dispatched by an post , but for some reason its royal mail and am really annoyed now because it may end up with GLS and i live about 30 mins away from dundalk int he countryside so getting it delivered by a courior without a phone number is going to be a pain , hopefully its been handed over to an post though.

The last two orders I've made have both been sent out by "Royal Mail" rather than "An Post". The difference being instead of getting the item in two days now I have to wait five to six. Now maybe I've been unlucky in what I've ordered but it looks to me that Amazon are cutting back. It was too good to last I suppose. Will be using Parcel Motel's NI address in future.

the reason it is dispatched by an post is that more than likely amazon have sent the item from the uk to their dublin centre, then you get a dispatched email from the dublin centre and get it in two days......

Its either that or the item was in stock in the dublin centre (but highly unlikely)

Does Amazon have a Dublin Centre? I always presumed that when it was dispatched by An Post at the parcels were labeled for An Post popped in a truck and then driven to Dublin/Ireland and handed over to An Post in Bulk. Didn't think Amazon stored any products in Dublin.

Amazon don't have any fulfillment centre's in Ireland, they do have a return address though.

OP, if its gone out via Royal Mail from the uk it'll just be passed to another delivery company in Ireland. nothing odd or weird about this its perfectly normal.

Vast majority of amazon parcels are dispatched from their uk centres and labeled there with an post labels. Amazon then contract a trucking company to take these parcels from their uk distribution centres and drop them off at the Dublin mails centre on new nangor road.

Some items are from specialist warehouses that don't have the volume for truck delivery to Dublin, hence they use another method.
