Anyone got any thoughts on Glencullen golf club? Quality of course, club atmosphere, competitions, etc. Fairly close to me so considering membership there this year.

Here are my thoughts as a member.

    Course:

9-hole course with alternate tee boxes for front and back nines. 2 par 5s and 5 par 3s. Not particularly long. Generally playable all year round. Some of the tee boxes are uneven in spots but generally not too bad. Greens are in good nick.

    Facilities:

No much to report here. Simple clubhouse - changing area, shop and area for tea/coffee/scones after golf. No bar/restaurant. Small practice area.

    Atmosphere:

Good bunch of lads. I think the fact that it's a very simple setup takes away a lot of the scope for politics, etc. It's not members owned so the issues don't arise.

    Competitions:

Competitions every Saturday and Sunday with majors played across both days. Saturday comp. can also be entered on a Friday. 9-hole comp. on a Wednesday which is great for after work. Interclub seems to be a growing area for the club so participation is encouraged.

It's €695 for the year so if you're close by I'd say go for it. If you don't like it after the year then you can put it down to experience.

Can't comment as a member but it's a course I played several times last year.
It's very handy to me from work.

I always enjoyed my rounds. Was impressed by the friendly welcome up there, and even though only went up a few times, we got recognized after the first time and there was always a nice welcome and a chat.
The members having a tea/coffee jumped in a few times to shoot the breeze with us.

We never used the practice facilities (quick 9 after work, so we never had too much time on our hands) but there seemed to be a decent pitch and putt type area with a few targets on it.
Would be handy enough for a bit of short game practice.

As n2o says, it's not long.
That might be a factor if you're joining as a member more so than me judging it as a place to have a few casual rounds.
The course itself was always in great shape.
With the exception of the first hole, which is pretty straight forward, the other 8 offer plenty of quirks and challenges.
The greens were always great and deceptively quick.

Anyone heard that this club is struggling ?

I heard that they lost a lot of members as the fee went up and that the tax man was after the owners ..... it could be rubbish, just wondering.

Rumours are not welcome, nor is digging up old threads
