    Hey everyone!
I'm sorry I know this is always being asked, but I'm just curious is anyone here did arts last year and got into pure psychology? I got 71% for my first semester and I am just wondering if anyone could tell me what percentage was needed last year to get into the course?
    Thanks!

I got into denominated psychology (top 15) through arts last year, think the cut off was around abouts 73% but don't take my word for it...
If you're getting in the sixties you've a high chance of getting into psychological studies as well, so don't rule that out (top 100) You can always do the Hdipp and have a degree of equal weight that way. Although entry into the hdipp is very competitive.
Before you make the leap though be sure to think carefully and look at next years modules. Psychology isn't exactly what I expected, I still love it, but a few friends of mine are unhappy with the course.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll still try for the top 15, I'm hoping to transfer to a different uni next year and it would look pretty good if I got into psych because I was in the top 15 of my class. I'll have a look at the modules but so far I've really enjoyed psychology, especially the more biology based modules, so I don't think I'd dislike it if I got into it next year!

    Thanks again!

    No problem :)
Yeah, it's a good thing to aim for. I dislike majority of my modules but to be honest, looking back at the CAO I wouldn't have done it any differently.
I loved biology too, but there's only one biological module in second year and an elective of neuroscience which has a 50% failure rate, just to bear that in mind...if you're hoping for biology that's not what it is. It's very research orientated, with advanced research methods and statistics...and maths...
Not trying to knock it down or anything, but just it's not at all like first year :P
Some modules such as clinical and forensic are fascinating!

Couple years ago I got 73% in first semester and I think somewhere around the mid to high 60's for the second semester. Cant fully remember. Ended up that I got offered a place in Psych Studies.

Unlike you I hate the biology based modules with a passion. People that did Bio as a LC subject seem to have a slight advantage where they can bypass learning some of the bio aspects and just integrate the psych info with what they already know. For someone that didn't do Bio in LC, it was like double the work for 2 modules for me.

Also take in to account that after first year there will only be one MCQ style exam as a small percentage of one module in second year. Social psych i think it was. The rest of the exams are essay based or maths and statistics based. Plus the essays get tougher and there is a lot more research and reading to do.

Not getting in to pure psych isn't the end of the world. Like the above posters mentioned you could go down the Psych Studies route and then do the diploma. Or after completing the psych studies course you could gain an interest in a specific area of psychology and research further education in that area.
