Fuel Rail and Santa Fe issues

    Hi All

My Dad as a 2002 Santa Fe diesel. It is a 2.0 TD. His owned the car since it was 2 years old and now there is over 260 k Miles. His never had a spot of bother till about a month ago.

It is stopping now for no reason and also can be quite hard to start. At this stage he has replaced the pump, 2 injectors and fuel rail (second hand) .Unfortunately it is still giving trouble.

My Dad reckons it’s a sensor at the front of the fuel rail that is the issue. He has already replaced it twice, both times from a scrapped car. The second time he changed it the car worked perfect for 3 days now is giving trouble again.

He enquired with Hyundai if he could buy the sensor at the front of the fuel rail separately but they want him to buy the whole unit with the fuel rail, which is very expensive.

My question is he barking up the right tree. Would this sensor be the route of the problem?

If so would anyone know where he would be able to get one new without buying the whole fuel rail?

    Thanks for reading :)

Im 95% sure its the fuel pipe that comes from the rail--the longer one of the 4 of them.Theres a modified one out that solves the problem. They used to get a hairline crack in them and under pressure the car would cut out and have no fuel pressure also causing hard starting.

Would it not have been far cheaper and faster to have the car properly diagnosed at the start rather then spending god knows how much money and time replacing random parts?

He did take it to a local mechanic at the start who seemed to know what he was doing. Unfortunately this did not this prove to be the case. :(
