hi guys, have a 05 golf bkd engine, got a carwash on thursday and soon after it when i was driving it started losing power, mechanic said intercooler pipe had come off down low on passenger side so he clipped it back on and all was grand until this evening , same thing again, pipe is off as i can see now. mechanic originally though the power washer might have blown it off but now its off again. could that be true and maybe he didnt put it back on again properly and its just a coincidence or is there something else causing it to come off.
    all help appreciated , thanks.

Its a common fault on TDIs of that era the intercooler pipe blow off under boost thus the car looses the benefits of the turbo charger. I replaced the pipe with a new OEM one and the clip on the older car I hand to ensure that it didnt occur again in future. When I repalced it from memory the pipe was about 40 euro.

Its very common on VAG engines for the end of the metal U clip that holds the intercooler pipe on to break off. Unless this is replaced then the pipe won't stay in place for long.

that seems spot on, got underneath it this morning and comparing it to the other side a little 'leg' shaped part is missing off the clip. can you but the clips or do i need to get the whole pipe?? am i better off going for a new one if i do need a new pipe if they are troublesome, a second hand one is probably going to break sometime.

If you want a bodge job you could use a jubilee clip to hold the pipe in place or just purchase a new clip from the dealer should only be a few quid.

I replaced the pipe and clip to ensure that it wouldnt be troublesome in future.

dont think you can buy clips separately from pipe but breakers yard probably would sell them separately

You can't use a jubilee clip on those IC pipes as the ends of them are solid.

got a clip today in vw €1.20, its on now so fingers crossed. parts lad said they sell at least one of the intercooler pipes every week as its normally the locating notches on the connection part that wears so hopefully the clip will solve it. the pipe is only €40 so not too bad if i have to get one. thanks for the help guys.
