Broken Guitar

I've been getting horrible, horrible feedback from my guitar recently. It's a high pitched, pulsating staticy sound. When I turn down the tone knob on the pickup I'm using the feedback goes away. I'm not really sure what's causing it, I looked at the wiring and it seems to be fine. I'm using an Acoustic Solutions Strat-rep(without the whammy bar). It has 3 pick-ups but the middle one's broken.
Has anyone had this problem/know how to fix it?

Might be worth while changing cable and amp to make sure the issue is not further down the chain...

But once you've confirmed that, it might be worth recording the sound and throwing it up on youtube. Cos when you describe it as feedback, it may lead people to suggest solutions that are not on the right path.
