Looking for Orienteering Equipment

Hi there. Does anyone have orienteering equipment that they would like to sell (i.e. kites, punches)? Alternatively, does anyone know where to buy reasonably prices equipment (other than online - I've tried a number of the sites and the equipment is either expensive if bought in euros - even with free shipping - or is cheaper in the UK but the shipping charge is very high). I am based in Dublin working with a youth group, but willing to travel if anyone knows a good source.

If shipping is a problem from the UK, but the supplier will deliver to Northern Ireland at the same rate as mainland UK, then check out Parcel Motel (https://www.parcelmotel.com/).

You could try posting a request on www.orienteering.ie. Some clubs may have spare punches as they mainly use electronic systems now. Doubt many would have spare kites though but you might get lucky

There are also permanent courses in the Dublin mountains where all you need to do is print off the maps from www.coillteoutdoors.ie and bring a pen/pencil

Best option I can think of would be to join your local club and ask them about lending you their equipment for your training events. Most clubs put on occassional training events which you could take advantage of. The next few Sundays will see events on Ticknock and Hellfire Club if you want to bring the group along. See the website or pm me if you have other queries

Thanks Alun - I'll definitely check out that option.

Thanks Gerry Hat Trick. I'll get in touch with the IOA and see who can offer what. The advice about the permanent courses is appreciated too.

We get our orienteering gear from Great Outdoors in Dublin. Alternatively we also make some basic sets ourselves, using laminated codes which need to be copied down, instead of punchers.

Do you know of any groups around Killarney that do orienteering? I can see that there are maps for Knockrear etc but posts on some websites are from back in 2004. I have always wanted to try it. Sounds like a bit of fun. Ta

www.orienteering.ie has got all the upcoming fixtures including Muckross at the end of this month - just turn up between 11am-1pm at any of the events or there's a phone number / email address on the link below which can hopefully give you more info in the meantime
