Car insurance for learners

Hello, I'm a 17 year old male and I'm having trouble finding car insurance.

I have a 1999 1 litre Toyota Yaris and I get really high quotes. €2,500+ on some companies.

My mother is 40 and has a learner permit too. I tried setting her as the main driver and myself as the second driver. I got a quote of €3,000 on AXA and other companies won't even give a quote.

My mother is currently insured on the Yaris for €1,000 by herself.

Why are the quotes so high for a small car? :-(

Seems like it's impossible to pass the test at all since I can only get experience with an instructor.

Any ideas of what to do?

    17, Male and provisional licence.

I'm afraid you won't find anything 'cheap'.

Right so gonna have to wait till I'm 18 I guess.

BrittonInsurance gives me a quote of €1,800 with my mam if I set my age to 18 which seems fairly reasonable :)

Top tip. Always add your mother if you can, it'll reduce your policy considerably.

Also, give them a ring and go through the details, I got a better quote over the phone than i did online.

+1 Even when I got a quote on the phone I asked if that was the best they could do.
The chap said I think, but let me confirm and came back with about 50quid less. :pac:

Your not going to get a whole lot better...try liberty....123....they might be better..

Try liberty, I got insured by them last December for 750 on a learners permit and that includes my dad and my sister on the same insurance, they both have their full license. At the time they were running a deal with ISM that if i complete 12 lessons within 6 months they will give me a refund of 250. I paid 369 for the 12 lessons so I am basically paying 10 euro a lesson once i get the 250 back.
