Thinking of visiting Malaga in the next few weeks as it seems easy to get to and relatively warm. Just wondering what it is like. I had a preconceived idea it was a bit tacky and full of yobs on drinking holidays. From what I can see it seems to be quite historical and could be nice.

Malaga is ok as a city, but not special. There won't be many yobs there, you have to go to Torremolinos or Benalmadena if you want to see the greater spotted yobbus incrediblus. :D

Now if you're into cities and you want a bit of warmth at this time of year you should go to Seville. What a beautiful city! I'm not really into cities bit Seville (and Barcelona) impressed me. When in Seville, it's just a short run to Jerez and it's attractions. Not least, for me, is the upcoming Formula 1 testing.

Been to Barcelona a few times so looking for somewhere I haven't been. Not really a beach person and I am a city person.

I like Malaga. There's not a lot there compared to the big tourist cities but it's a very pleasant place to walk around, eat and relax (and good value). It's a great base if you have a car - some excellent day trips into the mountains.

You won't see any yobs - they go direct from the airport to their habitats further down the coast.

I was pleasantly surprised by Malaga actually, it wasn't somewhere I was ever interested in going to as I thought it would be tacky as well! It's a nice city though with plenty of lovely places to eat and drink, and it has some great museums as well. There's two fortresses over the city as well which are interesting to explore, and as the previous poster said it makes a great base for further travel locally.

Second what ever one else says. Was there for 4 days in August last year. All very civilised, lots of nice restaurants and tapas bars. Beautiful forts, historic sites. We spent 3 days sunbathing and 1 sightseeing so not sure how long you could spend there. There's not that much to see but a great base for exploring Gilbrater and Grenada.
