You might be able to get part worn and won't hit the pocket too bad either

part worn are false economy in my opinion,i use to get them a lot but they only seem to be on the car a short while and your changing them again,i find the best wearing part of the tyre is the first couple of mm of the thread from new,to the op,what sort of prices are you been quoted for the eagles?have you tried "camskill" in england, even with the exchange and delivery i bet the'll be a lot cheaper than anyone in ireland, they will deliver to your door in 2 to 3 days, you just have to get them fitted,i've bought a lot of tyres of them over the years in a 17" and 18" size and from what i see they cant be beaten on price.

tbh ive used part worn before and i found they didnt last too long but the eagles have been great imo, haven't priced new eagles recently but i only have about 90 quid per tyre to spend at the min that why i was hoping there was some offers on somewhere.

Normally I'd suggest online, but you'll find that shipping, fitting of the new tyres, and disposal of the old ones really eats up any price difference, unless you are looking for really expensive or odd sized tyres.

I've used http://www.limericktyrecentre.com/ recently, in Limerick obviously, near the south court hotel. The guy there says he supplies tyres for a lot of the tyre places in Limerick. May or may not be true, but has huge stock.

I got 2 goodyear eagle f1's, wound up being cheaper to buy locally over camskills.

If you are passing through limerick, it's no harm to give him a call to see what he has in your price range.

Look at falken, Hankook, uni royal, bf Goodrich and brands like that. Get the phone book out to and just start making calls, thats what I did and got a great price on the Goodyear Eagles I have :)

This old war of new-vs-part worn. IMO, Its all to do with € per mm and what your pocket can afford.

Assuming a new premium tyre at €120 with 8mm thread, if you change the tyres at 2mm, that gives you 6mm of life, or €20 per mm.

A €40 premium part worn with an average of 5mm thread, will give you 3mm usable life, thats €13/mm.

**It is well documented that you should always replace your tyres when the fall below 3mm as the wet braking distance starts going up exponentially!!!.....

How must did you get them for?

    I'd suggest Kellehers tyres, http://kellehertyrescork.com/

I got a recap tyre there not too long ago, will get one or two next time I'm down in Cork. I'm seriously pleased with the one I got, looks real high quality, with treads seriously deep, looks like something you put on an SUV. €45, for a tyre size that would be more like 70 or 80 for a "name brand" tyre.

I'm not sure would the OP be getting any of them brands in the size he wants for his €90 budget per tyre but stand to be corrected.

I do agree with you, its worth picking up the phone and ringing about. You may not save a hell of a lot but you may potentially save yourself a few quid all the same...

In that price range, I reckon these wouldn't be too shabby:

You'd have to add €12 per tyre for fitting and balancing though, unless you can get it done cheaper.

Mine were 140, but those were 18's. I was actually looking for hankooks, but these were a great price.

Have you considered changing to 225x45x17? More choice of tyres and cheaper, very little difference in size compared to the originals.

I hadnt tbh ive alway gone with was was on the car , so if im understanding this correct it would be a wider tyre but less thickness so to speak ?

Side wall is a percentage of the width, so on your original tyres 50% of the width is the height of the sidewall.
On the 225's it would be 45% of the width, so not much in the difference overall.

Original diameter would be 25.5" compared to 25" on the 225 width tyres.

Glic83 you could also change to 215/45 R17 which I believe may also be that bit more common a size than the 215/50 R17 and hence generally speaking you could expect more choice (better value?)

Bear in mind that going up to the 225 wide tyre will put a little bit of a dent in you fuel economoy, all other things being equal. Absolutely nothing immense but it will have a small impact. The difference in grip between 225 and 215 would be neglibible, again assuming everything all other aspects being equal.

so would it make a difference if i had 215/50/r17 on the front and 215/45/r17 on the rear?

It wouldn't. No doubt its probably not recommended but as long as you stick with the same tyres on the same axle you would be good. Somebody might confirm what the story is with the NCT though. I know for certain that you can have different widths between front and rear (again the widths have to be the same on the same axle) without it being an issue for the NCT. Different profiles though....somebody might be so kind as to confirm for sure whether thats an issue with NCT or not.
