    Hey,

I have since November lived in Dublin , I moved from my home in Scotland to work at Trinity College. Anyway I am gay (only recently come out) and well I am sick of being alone at weekend and need to meet people, so I was wondering if anyone knew any decent places to chill in Dublin?

Also are there any LGBT support groups I can get hold of that would help a guy of 22, I have had issues and well I had to get help for them in the UK so if someone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome :-)

    Thanks in Advance

    Ewan x

Hey Ewan. Welcome to Dublin! I'm not sure what the scene is like in Scottish cities but I imagine Dublin would be comparable.

The scene is quite small and if you start socialising on it you will recognise the same people again and again. Some people feel it's quite clique-y. But when you're new to it it can be exciting and in the gay bars, men heavily outweigh women so you are in luck :pac: I'm sure you will meet some cool people!

There is a nice bar called The Front Lounge if you google it. It's like a 'normal' pub but has more LGBT clientele. Mainly younger crowd but you will get people of all ages, races and orientation there. It's a cool place to chill and have a beer or to start off your night at the weekend!!

Club wise, The George and The Dragon are big ones and they're right beside each other pretty much.

In terms of LGBT support groups, maybe you could join the soc in Trinity?

    Cool thanks.

Yeah I don't think I can get messed up in the college LGBT stuff, I am staff and sometimes a Teaching Assistant so I think it would be a conflict of interests. (Even though I am a pHd student aswell )

The front crowd sounds nice to be honest. Someone else mentioned it before :-S

Ah that's a shame. This is just my opinion but I don't think it would be a problem if you joined the soc; as you said you are a PhD student. But you would know more about the department you're in than I, so I understand if you want to play it safe! I'm not in the LGBT soc in my college either due to fear of being outted but I'd say it is a good way to meet people!

I'm not sure about social groups for gay guys in Dublin. I know for the younger crowd there is Belongto but to be honest I haven't heard great things about them.

If you're into sports there is a gay rugby team called the Emerald Warriers. Also, I've heard good things about this group http://wetandwildsports.com/

I honestly don't know about Trinity's policy on it. There are an awful lot of posters asking for gay guys above 40 to do some research in my bit so maybe there are staff in it (but year avoid middle age guy) . Gay rugby teams ? That is kinda amusing, I did Full Contact Union at school where I was a 2nd Row forward, and never felt awkward rammed in the middle of a maul lol, and well my boss is in the Italian society. Maybe the Irish colleges are more sensible about it than the UK ones (well Coventry) are

I am out the closet so the perpetual fear of getting outed is out the window, and well there is the whole Irish sea and 1/2 of Scotland between me and my folks lol

I may have a look around, we have belongto in the UK (And in Coventry where I did my undergrad) but I am not sure

As far as I know tcd staff can join the societies on campus just like students- you would get a decent enough mix in the LGBT soc of undergrads and postgrads too.

I've never had an issue in tcd regarding my sexuality, but I know what you mean about being a ta- it could get awkward if you see someone out at something that you teach the next week!

You should have a look on meetup.com, I know there are a good few gay groups in Dublin. Also, Accents coffee shop on Stephen St is really nice for a coffee. It's not necessarily a gay place but its as close as you can get tbh!!

I'm fairly sure the LGBT Soc in Trinity welcomes staff too

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

There has a few meet ups organised from here that have gone well so far and it looks like more in the same vein will probably happen in the near future so you may as well keep an eye on the forum here!

Third year gay Scottish Trinity student here. Welcome! I'm not really involved in Q soc, but I know there are plenty of post-grad type members around there. I wouldn't let it put you off.
