Myself (20) and Girlfriend (22) are planning on moving out and getting our own apartment. She lives outside Drogheda while I live in Dundalk she is originally from the Northside of the City and would like to rent an apartment in the City Centre or anywhere near a Luas line.

We are both getting JSA and one of the main reasons for looking to rent in Dublin is job opportunities.

My question is, How would be go about renting an apartment? As we are both receiving JSA would we qualify for Rent Allowance?

Where would be the cheapest/best place to rent?

You will not qualify for rent allowance unless:
    • you are already renting or
    • you are assessed by your local authority as being in need of social housing
"I want to move in with my girlfriend" will not count as a need -- you will have to show why your current living circumstances are genuinely unsuitable, whether through overcrowding, poor conditions or family conflict.
