Does anyone have Radiator covers? Do they work? DO they hold heat back from room?

    hi murph,

what do you mean, do they work?
if you mean do they look good, then yes, they can look very well to hide unsightly rads. this is espeicially the case with the newer high output rads, these are a horrible design!

but, no matter how good they may look, they actually do lower the output of the rads, if you can imagine hot air being trapped inside. much like a hot air baloon, so you can get the picture! although they may have open panels on the front, the actual radient heat is significally reduced.

so if you can, stay away!

Plus its hard to get at the radiator valve, if you want to turn them on/off etc.
Also, especially if you have kids, you cant try clothes on them, when using a rad cover.
But, hey they do look great!

I got them Ill admit i do think they kill off some of the heat a small amount but they look absolutely lovely. You can make them into nice show pieces with ornaments and lamps on them. Loss of heat ...nah i prefer the look anyday. It holds some heat in i think but not a massive amount

Is it possible to get radiator covers that come off easily? then you could have them off Oct - April and put them on April - Oct.

We got them downstairs. Delighted with them, really smarten the place up. They do inevitably adversely affect heat from the radiator. We used these guys http://www.timberline.ie/ I have no affiliation with them whatsoever, but I have to say that they were brilliant. Matched the colours we wanted, came & fitted the stuff perfectly. They also did a bookcase/tv unit which way exceeded our expectations. Have to give them top marks, if only all tradespeople were as good!
