Help needed, engine replacement

Hi all I need help urgently. I bought an 06 mazda6 1.8 petrol just over3 months ago from a main dealer. Oil consumption seemed quite high but no problems until last week. Regularly dipped engine then one morning oil light came on only while braking and went out again, parked car immediately and dipped again.. Oil was on minimum marker so topped it off. Started no problem and oil light stayed off. Next day loss of engine power and check engine light. No strange noises, smoke, leak etc. I rang the dealer and had it towed over there, I had a 3 month warranty on car however it was out by 12 days. After examining they told me engine needs replacing and that they will do the necessary work free of charge as I only put minimal mileage on it and so close to warranty.

    Here are my question:

1: should I be relieved that they are fixing car and leave it at that?

2: how can I tell mileage/condition of the replacement engine they put in?

3: should I be looking for refund/ car of similar value rather than accepting the replacement engine?

4: do I need to notify insurance or nct and how will this affect resale value of car?

5: will performance of car be affected and could this be the start of many problems with this car?

Please help as I have taken 5 year loan on this car and can't afford to be out of pocket on it...

sounds like you got lucky, i'd just keep the head down now and be thankful.

if they are willing to replace the engine, they aren't going to give themselves the grief of fitting a worse one.

Just ask them to extend the warranty on the engine only, that way if there is any problems you are covered.

friends of mine have a mazda like yours, same year same engine,it was always thirsty for oil, about a year ago while out driving my friends wife had the oil light come on,she was close to home and kept going,as most people know thats not the wisest thing to do but she knew no better, after been topped up it drove fine and is still going to this day, only problem is since then its a complete guzzler for oil, huge consumption,he has it priced up to get the engine reconditioned,to try and answer your questions 1.if i was you i'd give the dealer a chance to fix it and then see where you are,2.you wont know for definite what mileage the replacement has, you'll only have there word on it 3.if all else fails and the new engine is'nt up to satisfaction then i'd go looking for a refund/replacement 4.no reason to tell insurance or nct once the new engine is the same capacity as the original,5.performance should be the same,i cant answer the second part of your question, good luck shortchef, let us know how ya get on
