Increase in dental prices?

    Hi,

The dentist I attend recently retired and a new dentist is replacing him. All patients have been transferred over to the new dentist. I have finally been able to book an appointment and I now discover that the new dentist has increased prices for example I used to pay €40 for a clean and polish only and I am now being asked to pay €65. I always believed that €40 was quite reasonable for just a clean and polish and I did expect an increase in price but this is an increase of 63% in a matter of months. I feel this steep increase in price is a little unfair.

Does anybody know the average cost of a clean and polish? And have other dentists ever increased their prices by so much in such a short space of time?

I can completely see where you're coming from, & imagine the other patients in the practice will feel much the same as you do.
It may be worth opening the lines of communication , basically saying that you're a longstanding client of the practice& would like to continue being one, but that seeing as there's been a 63% increase in the price, would like to enquire as to why there is a difference.
Have a look online at other dental practices in the area to compare prices, or ring around.
Was the old dentist undercharging? Is the new dentist overcharging?
Has there been investment in new equipment/materials/training/staff/appointment time- ie: where is the value in the increased price? (though maybe just phrase all this a bit more subtly, just in case you do decide to give them a try)
