Starting plants under cover.

I would love to get started growing from my own seeds. Cabbage, Cauliflowers, etc Variety of salad plants, peas, beans and flowers. I don't have a polytunnel or glasshouse yet.
Would I have success doing this under a selection of polyethene(using scrap insulation on the sides) covered cold frames? If so, when would be good to start?
    Thanks in advance.

Just sow in modules indoors asnd use your window ledges, preferably south facing. Look up the different requirements of the different types of plants. All of those should be fine to start now except french beans

As above. I've sown all my bedding plants for the year (much cheaper than buying the plants later in the year) in containers on my window ledges.
Just plant the seeds in containers of damp potting compost, cover with cling film until the seedling appears & is growing strong & remove the cling film.
If the seedlings get too crowded before it's time to sow them outside seperate them into different containers.
I also like to harden my seedling by leaving them out during the day for about a week before I sow them.
    Best of Luck!

She's fantastic. Updates the various sections each month. There is nothing else you will need. Just follow her example.

put a tray under pots and modules ensuring water always available and keeps compost damp.
had aful trouble last year with seedlings hoping for better this year.
going to start cabbage myself too this year rather than buy small plants, fingers crossed
