    Hi
I bought a pair of shoes for my daughter online and they arrived yesterday. The box was mangled and the shoes were filthy. The buckle is rusted and they just are totally unwearable. The outer packaging was intact so they left the seller in that condition. They have agreed to refund the cost of the shoes but not the postage. What's the bottom line here. Do they have the right to hold on to the postage costs? I paid by PayPal so can open a dispute.
    Thanks

It's pretty common that postage costs are non refundable.

They shud refund but generally you can't force them to. If u open a PayPal claim they will give a full refund including the postage cost u paid to send them to you.
Make sure u return with a traceable method

I have had to return items i bought online on a few occasions because they were faulty. I have always been refunded my postage costs because according to the NCA the seller is liable for return postage if the item is faulty. I had one company tried to argue that they were not liable but they backed down in the end and claimed they were new to internet selling so were not aware of the requirements!

    Faulty goods & refunds

If you buy something through distance selling and it turn out to be faulty, then generally your consumer rights are the same as if you bought it in a shop.

If what you bought is damaged or faulty in any way you should complain to the seller in writing immediately - by email, fax or letter - and ask for a refund or replacement. If you have to return an item because it is faulty, the seller is liable for any return shipping costs.

If the refund is not provided within 30 days of cancellation and you paid for the goods using a credit or debit card, your card provider may agree to reverse the transaction. This is called a chargeback. Contact your provider (the bank or credit card company who issued the card) immediately and give them details of your transaction.
