€17.50 for a steak and trimmings? The Indy has the story.

Basically regular meals will continue to be part of the fare in transatlantic flights but if you fancy something more upmarket you can pre book these "superior" meals at a price. It has to be done before online though, you can't just order it on the aircraft.

I guess it is probably a good thing. It gives the consumer more choice which is always nice. Whether or not it will be worth the €17.50 is another question though.

I guess there is no reason not to. KLM has been doing it for quite a while now, and I'm pretty sure I read of another airline doing similar so there is evidently a demand for it. And with Aer Lingus being the kind of carrier it's become, it makes sense to add another revenue steam that has relatively little impact on their base offering.

With the success of the Irish breakfast on short haul, this is a good idea.

    Choice is always good.

Considering that you get a steak and dessert along with the wine, 17.50 is pretty OK. Wine on its own is 5 Euro........judging by that picture those Lily dessert retail for about 2.50-3 Euro in town. So about E9-10 for a steak......why not when you have already paid a couple of hundred for the flight.

On another note I don't like the tone of the article in the Indo, I can understand a comment piece displaying individual opinions....but surely this should be phrased a bit more objectively?

Well it's not even factually correct, never mind appallingly written.
Currently, customers in economy class on Aer Lingus transatlantic flights get more modest offerings such as pasta bolognese, and have to pay to wash it down with any drink apart from water.

Obviously, Indo journalists don't fly down the back, seem as the fact that all soft drinks (not just water) are free has also escaped the author ;)

Not in EI economy, hasn't been for a number of years. Same as many of the US carriers.
