Time and location would be handy. Unless it's an anywhere, any time kinda protest?

Who's organizing these protests? If the trade unions, Eirigi, Sinn Finn or the Socialist Workers Party are involved and will be spewing their ****e at any stage I'll stay at home thanks.

No, it will be run by Fianna Fail!

Of course it will be run one of the above from the left, who else do you expect to be against the current government's austerity policy's.

    I will be there.

Anyone else who isn't in it for themselves or thinks that we can sell magic beans to fix the economy or isn't a professional protester. Non of the groups I mentioned were involved in the Hospital protests and they were both well attended.

I'm calling it now less then 5000 at this protest.

If you haven't anything constructive to say or contribute in any meaningful way, then please STFU.

Sorry Mr Mod I'll keep my opinions to myself...... Oh wait you aren't a mod so I'll post whatever I feel like so long as its in line with the charter. The OP asked who was going and I pointed out that I wouldn't be. I'm free to choose not to attend a protest organised by Trade Unions who are so far removed from the original purpose of Trade Unions its unreal. The leaders of Ireland's first trade unions must be spinning in their graves to see the likes of David Begg (head of the ITCU) pulling in over €100,000 a year.

The upcoming protest is mainly organised by ICTU, Cahwt will be there and involved too up to a certain point, I can,t say nor confirm if any reps from those political parties will speaking or not that day, someone from ICTU and Cahwt will speaking on the platform that day though.

what solutions will be put forward by those organising this protest??? I want to see the deficit bridged by cutting spending, rather than increasing taxes??

will this point of view be catered for?? or will it be just a load of populist slogans like "they say cutback. we say fightback"?? Why dont these protestors just be honest enough to carry placards that say "Increase taxation and keep spending our hard-earned taxes on those who are more than likely going to vote for lefties..."

I am no fan of the union leadership but you are simply engaging in a bit of mindless bashing and using that as a convenient excuse to bash those who are trying to make a change in our society.

Here's one solution, its a start. Stop paying billions to unguaranteed and faceless bondholders.

Yes and if we did that and stopped paying the bondholders, you do realise we would also have to bring in anywhere around €10 billion in cuts and tax increases overnight?

You see, we have a problem with banking debt but even if that disappeared tomorrow, we still have a problem with at least a €10 billion budget deficit.

Have a protest against debt and tax...... And at the same time spend thousands on advertising. How 'working class'.

Nope. Lets not forget the govt takes in approx €34,000,000,000 in tax each year. If they cant run a country of 4.5m people with that, then they can go jump and let someone in who can run it successfully

The solution is not to borrow even more money which leads to higher debt and higher interest repayments, thus requiring ever increasing revenues just to stand still

So you are suggesting that we default on the bondholders and live within our means (€34 Billion)?

Err yes, the bondholders are not the responsibility of joe the taxpayer, they took a gamble and lost, simple as.

    I agree with you.

A lot of people can't seperate out the bondholders and our deficit though. They think if we just stopped paying the bondholders, everything would be honky dory.
