Goods have disappeared in the Customs black hole.

I ordered some hobby parts from Hong Kong (made of innocuous plastic of no harm to anyone) and An Post sent the parcel to Customs over two weeks ago for assessment. Since then I've heard nothing. I contacted An Post and they said contact Customs. I tried ringing Customs and was passed around all over the place until I was cut off.

Any advice as to how I can trace my order and find out what is going on?

    Thanks

It's pretty difficult to get in contact with Customs at the best of times! Basically what happens is that when goods enter the country a SAD (single administrative document) is drawn up which gives all the details about the goods. Generally a Customs clearance agency does that paperwork. If you can find out who filed that paperwork with Customs you can ask them for the SAD entry number and entry date. I'm not exactly sure who would have the information about who did the paperwork, but I'd imagine either An Post or the seller of the goods would know. If you have those SAD details, you could contact Customs and they may be able to help you a little.
