I've bought a 12gb PS3 on the assumption I might be able to make it last a few weeks till I can be bothered to upgrade the hardrive, but it needs to be done sooner rather than later. Question is, if people know

What kind of hardrive do you use?
    What else do you need?

The 12GB console needs a mount which is €10 and can be gotten from a few shops and of course from most online ones. Price is not any cheaper online.

250GB should be the lowest you're looking at but a 500GB will remove any future problems, €50-60 will get you a 500GB with a 250GB drive not being all that cheaper at around €40-50. You'll get a better price on a hard drive online but a actual shop will likely be handier but a decent bit more expensive.

The hard drive needs to be 2.5" wide and at max around 9.5mm thick, a 5200rpm would be fine as there's not much point in getting anything better. The hard drive is a standard PC one that's used in laptops, if it's possible you could take one out of an old laptop.

When you add the HDD you'll get the option to copy the files from the internal 12gb to the new internal a HDD, there's no need to back up and restore to the new HDD.

Cheers man :) I do have an old laptop lying round I can gut the hard drive out of. Hopefully I can pick up one of these bracket things from gamestop or symths.

Depends on how old, if it's SATA and fits then it's fine.
