I recieved a letter today saying that I do not quailify for disability allowance because 'the illness must last up to one year and I must not be able to work due to the condition'

I suffer from Borderline personality disorder and have spent the past year in therapy twice a week trying to overcome the past 15yrs of self harm, suicide attempts and impulsive behaviour.. I have been quiet ill for the past 4yrs and havent worked, I have been recieving SWA but this is a limbo payment...

I have gotten my gp and also my physiatrist to fill in the required forms stating my illness and I have still been rejected.. I have written to the appeals office but no reply. I really dont know what to do because altho im feeling better than a year ago, I dont yet have the social skills to join the workforse just yet.. I would like to go back to college next year but again if your on SWA you are not entiltled to go back to education and recieve assistance.. Can one please give me some advice or point me in the right direction to go..
    Thank you...

Appeal, it takes a while. Get some help writing out your case.
I got it on appeal for depression.

MIs Leela dont give up. Appeal within 21 days. Ask the psychiatrist to write a letter about your condition stressing how it would prevent you from being available for work. Sit down and write a letter from yourself setting out what your life is like trying to battle this mental illness on a day to day basis and that although you hope some day to be fit for work, that you just cant now.Dont worry about spellings or grammar, its not the Leaving Cert.If you cant get the letter from the psych before the 21 days is up the send the appeal anyway and you can forward the letter after. If your unsure how to appeal then go to your local citizens information centre and ask them to help you. Good luck
