Kryptonite New York Mounting

    Hi Guys,

Bought one of these locks yesterday, had a go at installing the bracket but failed miserably. I even called into the local bike shop, happy to pay them for their labour but they poked at it for a few minutes (weren't even busy!) and recommended I buy a backpack for it.

I managed to get it on, but something wasn't right, and there was far too much movement. Anyone any advice/tips or places I could go to get it installed correctly? My bag for work is heavy enough on my back, so really want the lock mounted. Also, the last thing I wan't is €100 worth of lock falling off my bike!

    Leave the lock at work?

I used to use one a few years ago on the hybrid and if anything, the lock was ridiculously tight when placed in the mount. I skinned my fingers a few times just removing it!

Could you post a couple of pics to show us what way you have it mounted at present? Otherwise it's difficult to know where to start.

And just to clarify, is the lock loose in the bracket, or is the lock tight in it but the bracket is loose on the frame, or is it both?

My one seemed to mount fine. Make sure the rubber strip is between the frame and the strap to give it some grip, and after threading the strap through the metal holder, make sure its pulled as tight as possible before putting the first plastic part over it. The instructions with it are fairly good I thought?

I had the same problem with the first EZ Mount I had, but the next one was much less tight a fit. I think they modified the design slightly, presumably after complaints.

A friend of mine recently ordered some sort of velcro type mount system that he slips on the handlebars... not sure if it was Kryptonite official or not.. will check it out and see what he says.

Eventually found this which did the trick!

Thanks for all your suggestions. The annoying thing is, Kryptonite state in the instructions a URL of an official bracket mounting video, but the YouTube channel doesn't actually have a video for this particular lock!

Fit was a touch too tight, so adjusted the mount slider on the actual lock itself, so I could connect it into the bracket at an angle.

I was actually just going to quote that vid clip, its the best out there as the instructions are terrible.

I bought the FlexFrame U lock and have realized that between my saddle mounted mud guard/bag/light, bottle holder and oversized frame of the Specialized bike means I've pretty much nowhere to mount the bracket without damaging the frame with the rubber strapping supplied......Looks like its back in the bag for the time being until I figure something else out!

Only when I saw the video did I understand your problem. The mounting bracket on my New York is different, having a solid nylon strap with clip in notches on one side and a screw adjuster on the other. NOT the nylon cloth strap you've got. It still looks difficult to get a really tight grip with the cloth version and I'd be worried the metal buckle would scratch the frame?

Is this the new type of mount for kryptonite locks, as it doesn't look as secure as the one I have...?

I got it nice and tight. But nothing prevents the metal buckle from scratching your bike. I guess you could put something on the frame before you secure it, I didn't bother - mine is just bare flush with the actual bike.
The rubber is used for grip, and not to protect the area behind the buckle. If they provided more rubber, it would be perfect. They are pretty scabby with it. I initially thought the rubber was to protect from scratching!
