Anybody any tips for powerflushing underfloor heating? Anything different to a normal system?

Are their rads also installed or just UFH? There are certain procedures for PFing UFH.

Some zones not heating. One in particular. System was badly installed.

Why do think its a sludge issue that requires a powerflush?

Very black water for a start. I've tried to get other zones working but nothing. Can't think of much else to do with it

If the water is very black there is an underlying problem with oxygen entering the system. Check the barrier pipe & see if it is oxygen free. The older ones (10 years plus) were not & oxygen seeps through the pipe. Also check for leaks/seeps under each actuator.

To powerflush, heat the system before you arrive. Turn off & isolate the manifold, via the isolation valves. Remove the UFH pump, isolating the electrics to same. Powerflush the system from there. You will need to remove each actuator & bring some closing caps. Note the flow rate settings. Open & powerflush each circuit individually, removing the closing cap for each circuit. Re-instate each flow regulator.

You will need to repeat this for each manifold, possibly reheating the system before moving on.

Finally, close off the all the manifolds & powerflush via the boiler pump, opening any bypass valves to the closed manifolds. Open the cylinder balancing valve & flush the primary circuits.

You could also take a sample of water from the system, buy a Fernox test kit for €25. Send it off to Fernox & they will return a full analysis of the system, so you will know if it is an oxygen issue or a electrolysis issue.
