Im cycling about 2 years mostly on my own with average speeds of 23kph this includes completing the Mount Leinster Challenge (100KM) in may 2012 in just under 4.5 hrs.
My question is would I be able to keep up on a normal cycling club spin with this average speed ?

You tend to go faster in a group, and the dynamic in the group means your speed will improve, endurance will increase and you will get some abuse too :-)

Don't worry, it won't all be sexual.

Of course ..... part of being a part of a cycling club! And that's after the Initiation Ceremony!!!

Must say I don't know how people who are not members of a club keep getting out on their bikes during the winter ..... so many nights I'd have hidden in front of the fire if I hadn't committed to a Group Spin! Go for it!

Join , if your averaging on that you will average 25 min in a group and before long will be capable of alloy more, great way to improve

I know Lucan have 4 groups out on a Saturday now - Beginners, Sportive, Inter, advanced. A few friends have joined and they go in the beginners group to start and then move up as they feel comfortable.

Lucan allow you one spin before you have to join and I'm sure other clubs are similar but my advice would be to go along and try it, you won't regret it (unless you're like the fellow last month who fell and broke his elbow on his first outing - he might have regretted it... :) ).

If you are fond of Mt Lienster, there is a new club started up called Mt Lienster Wheelers. There is one group in Bagnelstown/Fenagh area and one group in Tullow. Im sure you would be more than welcome to go for a few spins with either group.
