Charged for Drink Driving Question

    Hi all i have just a quick question i was caught for drink driving back in 2008 i was just wondering how long does it take for it to be removed from my record as i am looking to get a garda cert for a visa?any info would be great guys and thanks;)

    If you were convicted then currently the offence will stay on your record permanently, Ireland does not remove offences after a period of time.

    There is legislation going through the Dail to change this afaik, but at the moment it will still show on your record.

    Big difference in being charged and prosecuted.

    Being charged means that only the Gardai has in their opinion have sufficient evidence for the offence for a procecution.

    If the charge was dropped or it went to court and dismissed and the case is technically "closed" you should have a "clean" record as you were cleared/found innocent for the offence.

    drink driving convictions don't go on police certs of character.

    Yes mate they do,i applyed for the garda cert a month ago and recieved it 3 weeks ago and it showed that i have a drink driving charge.
