Citroen C4 losing power

    Hi Folks,

    Looking for some idea's/suggestions.

    Ctireon C4 1.6HDI, 06, 81K Miles

About 3/4 months ago the engine management light came on, and i lost all va va voom on the motorway. I took the car to a garage and put her on the computer. The error at the time was that the turbo was over boosting.

3 Mechanics later, i got the turbo reconditioned and a small part fitted to it to stop the overboosting. Everything was fine for a couple of days until i was driving down to Dublin Airport. As i was coming down the motorway i was taking it easy, gradually speeding up and slowing down as you would on a motorway. However when i tried to put the foot down to pass someone the management light came on again and i lost power.

Took the car to back to get it back on the computer, this time an error came up about heater plugs (or something like that, can't remember exactly) The lads were able to delete the message and the car drove fine again for another couple of weeks. Then the same thing.

I have the car up for MOT in mid Feb, and i know she will not pass with a light on (new rules broUght in this year)

So anyone got any suggestions short of driving it into a ditch and throwing a match to her?

Any luck on sorting this out?
    Could be the egr valve.
The original turbo problem was sorted I presume

Had her in with a lad on Saturday and the conclusion is that its the ERG Valve.

The only thing i am wondering though, why would the problem be intermittent? Surly if the ERG valve is gone the power would be gone all the time?

At the minute she is fine up until i put the foot down? If i take it easy and gradually speed up the car is fine

Had similar problems with my 1.6 HDi. Is the van able to rev over 3k? Has the mechanic checked all vacuum hoses for leaks? If none of those, look at the injectors and check if there is a build up of carbon around any of them. When you get the warning light does it flash up on the dash anti pollution faulty?

The reason I ask about carbon build up around the injectors is, the bolts holding the injectors can work loose causing fuel to escape. This causes the carbon build up and can cause major damage if left unchecked in the long run and symptoms like you describe in the short run.

No its not able to rev over 3k, if it hits 2.5k or thereabouts the Anti Pollution light will pop up.

I got a jar of stuff (500ml) that when i add it to a full tank of fuel it will clean out the carbon...... I hope it will work!

It is slowly deteriorating as the weeks go on.

Someone said to me it could be the air flow meter? But again if its gone its gone and i wouldn't have intermitten problems?

If its bringing up a "depollution system faulty" then there are fault codes logged.
Get it plugged in and post up the fault codes here..;)
